Meeting up with Rebecca
As I think I’ve mentioned, at Ben and Bianca’s wedding I met Ben’s cousins, Rebecca and Emma, who live near Brissy. Rebecca had offered to meet up for a few beers when I finally arrived and so this is what we planned for my first Saturday in Brissy. Rebecca met me in the afternoon and we spent a few hours touring the South Bank, missing the river ferries and what not before having a cheeky half pint in the Casino. I have to
admit, the brief look in the Casino was a bit disappointing, not least because what I saw was a fairly small gambling hall and after having heard it called ‘Bris-Vegas’… well, I thought it’d be bigger!
It’s a great place to have a few sun-downers though and there was a band setting up in one of the main rooms – winner! First though, we needed to get the glad rags on and meet Bex’s mates, so off we tootled to Chez Kirk for the change of clothes then out to Rebecca’s mates gaff.
L-R: Dawn, The Captain and Bex.
In the event, there were the three of us on the beers: Rebecca, Dawn and myself. Lucky me to have two lovely lasses for company and after some shenanigans with the taxi we'd booked not turning up, we hit the town. Finding a boozer, whose name escapes me but it does great steaks, we settled in for a few sherbets and also watched the Australia v Ireland RU match, which to my disapppointment, Australia won. Didn't dampen the spirits though as we chatted our way through any number of subjects, including the old favourite - love and partners! It seems Dawn had been dealt some tough cards in the love game and was a bit unromaticised but I reckon that Bex and I managed to talk her round! Great getting some female perspective though and it reminded me of school, when on orchestra trips with the 'Ratton Players' we would have these similar conversations - except we were all much more innocent and less twisted then!
The night spread out to include a mad taxi ride with one of Dawn's lodgers after which we hit the Normanby Hotel - top boozer. I was pretty ragged by this point but for some reason we thought a final push to the Casino (open 24 hours you see!) was in order! My poor liver. You can tell my state by the fact that I thought this was a great photo!! Shame I couldn't take him out as a beer trophy!!
Cheers girls, great intro to Brissy!
