Nelson Bay
Sunday 21 May
A beautiful drive up the coast to Port Stephens / Nelson Bay - very popular area for weekend breaks and on getting there I can see why. Not overly developed it's a small seaside resort kind of town, with a lovely feel to it and nearby is Broughton Island, which is a penguin and wild bird sanctuary and is also apparently mega-great for scuba.
The beaches here were great for a cheeky run and this is the beach where I planned my Monday morning run - Jimmy take note!!
With it being Sunday, everything was closed but I resolved to be up early and on the case - there's that boat trip to be had!
As Monday ushered itself in, I attacked the day with new vigour - managing 40 minutes today - and a swim - it's a beaut (mate!). You can imagine how fucked off I was when I discovered that not only were there no scuba dives planned until next weekend but there were also no boat trips until the season picks up. I mean, come on - I couldn't get into the Caravan Park! But nope - zilch - zippo. Mind you, got a cracking fish supper.
The sunset was nice!
I had contemplated binning it in the afternoon and heading on to Foster but I decided to get another early start on Tuesday. That said, I'm glad I did because just after sundown, there was the world's biggest thunderstorm!! Believe me, when it goes off here it goes off. Eleanor - you'd've loved it! For me, I just hoped it wasn't Armageddon! Tuesday morning found me in a foul mood from lack of sleep - Seal Rocks - you'd better deliver!
One thing really pissing me off is the lack of signal in some of these places - makes keeping the blog and texting a right chore!
